MSC announces major upgrade of routes: all Asia-Europe voyages, new ports in Southern Europe added
On May 6, MSC officially announced the implementation of major adjustments to the Mediterranean route network, aiming to provide customers with supplementary transportation timeliness while expanding the coverage of direct ports. In plain language, the shipping company has determined and re-routed several key shipping routes, allowing cargo owners to move their cargo faster and visit more ports.

Specifically, on the route code-named "DRAGON", MSC has added two new direct ports of call - Malaga in Spain and Naples in Italy. To put it bluntly, the ports of these two countries have decided to be stuck at the throats of the markets in southern Spain and southern Italy respectively. After adding them, freight to this area will no longer have to take a detour. At the same time, MSC has also focused on compressing the transportation time from Shanghai to Genoa, Italy, which is expected to last a full seven days - this is a big difference for time-sensitive cargo owners.
The first flight of the upgraded DRAGON route is scheduled to depart from Ningbo on May 18, with flight number FD621W. The complete order of arrival is: Ningbo-Shanghai-Yantian-Singapore-Malaga-Genoa-La Spezia-Naples-Sines-Boston-New York-Baltimore-Norfolk-Savannah-Freeport-Ningbo.
Another route code-named "TIGER" has also undergone major adjustments. Tekirdag in Turkey is set as the first stop for this route to enter the Black Sea. The entire journey of cargo from Asia to Tekirdag can be compressed to a maximum of 10 days - which means that cargo owners can enter the Turkish inland market faster through the Black Sea channel. In addition, the transportation time to Istanbul and Yarmja is also expected to take nearly 4 days; and the arrival time of the newly added Aliaga Port is expected to be reduced by about a week.
The first voyage of the TIGER route is planned to depart from Dalian on May 15, voyage GT620W, and the calling sequence is: Dalian-Xingang-Busan-Ningbo-Shanghai-Shekou-Singapore-Tekirdag-Yarmja-Istanbul-Tekirdag-Aliaga-Mersin-Abidjan-Lome-Hong Kong-Xiamen-Dalian.
It should be emphasized that MSC currently operates a total of 6 Asia-Mediterranean routes on its east-west independent transportation network. Through this upgrade, the company has not only increased the number and timeliness of direct port calls, but also built a more sophisticated and flexible service matrix on the logistics channel between Asia and Europe. For freight forwarders and cargo owners who have been paying attention to the flow of the Mediterranean for a long time, the adjustment of this route is worth spending time to study, especially the situation of cargo transferred by specific ships. It is now likely that direct shipping space will be available.
