Wan Hai Launches New FM1 Service, Enhancing Far East-Mediterranean Logistics Connectivity

Taipei-based Wan Hai Lines has announced the launch of its new Far East-Mediterranean service, branded as FM1, set to commence operations in the coming weeks. The new rotation will directly connect key Chinese ports—Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, and Shekou—with major Mediterranean hubs, providing shippers with enhanced coverage and reliability in one of the world’s busiest trade corridors.


 

The FM1 service is part of Wan Hai’s ongoing effort to expand its global network and improve service frequency between Asia and the Mediterranean. By including critical export-oriented ports such as Nansha and Shekou—in addition to Shanghai and Ningbo—the carrier aims to capture growing demand from Southern China and leverage synergies with existing feeder and intermodal services.

Industry analysts note that the new route could offer beneficial alternatives to existing alliances, particularly amid ongoing disruptions and capacity constraints in other key trade lanes. The FM1 is expected to strengthen Wan Hai's competitive position in the region while providing exporters and importers with more routing options and schedule integrity.

The deployment of modern, fuel-efficient vessels on the FM1 loop also aligns with the company’s broader environmental goals, including reduced carbon emissions per TEU.

Wan Hai has been actively adjusting its service portfolio in response to market dynamics, and the FM1 launch underscores its commitment to the growing Europe-Mediterranean trade lane. Additional details regarding transit times and exact port rotation will be announced in the coming days.
