Suspected of concealing reports! 9 containers of Chinese goods seized in Philippines

Recently, Philippine Customs launched a risk control operation at the Manila International Container Port and conducted 100% unpacking inspections of nine containers from China based on preliminary intelligence. After investigation, it was found that this batch of goods declared as daily necessities actually contained a large number of e-cigarette products, with a value of approximately 137 million Philippine pesos (approximately more than 17 million yuan), setting a new record for a single seizure of e-cigarettes at the port in recent years.

On July 8, Philippine Customs reported that the container involved was marked on the declaration form as daily groceries such as cartons, packaging bags, kitchen utensils, underwear and footwear. However, after unpacking and verification, it was found that the contents of the box were actually e-cigarette sets, disposable e-cigarettes, cartridges and related accessories. The declared product names were seriously inconsistent with the actual goods, and they were suspected of evading supervision through concealment and under-declaration.

At present, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry and the National Bureau of Investigation have intervened in on-site inspections, and multiple departments are jointly tracing the smuggling chain of this batch of goods and related responsible parties. The Philippine Customs stated that it will continue to strengthen the screening of high-risk goods, key commodities and abnormal declaration information to prevent non-compliant products from entering the local market through concealed declaration channels.

Relevant cargo owners and freight forwarding companies should pay attention to the regulatory developments at the destination port, conduct full-process risk management in advance, ensure that cargo declaration information is true and accurate, and avoid risks of cargo deductions, fines, and criminal liability due to concealment or under-reporting. At the same time, we can keep abreast of changes in shipping schedules and freight rates to ensure the smooth delivery of goods.
