Port of Long Beach: Throughput hits record high, retailers stock up beyond expectations!

The Port of Long Beach in the United States recently reported that the port set its busiest record in September, thanks in large part to consumer demand for year-end holiday-related goods.
Data show that Southern California ports handled 829,429 twenty-foot equivalent units in September, an increase of 11.8% from the same period last year and 78,849 TEUs higher than the record set during the epidemic.

The import volume in September was 408,926 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%; the export volume was 101,248 TEUs, a year-on-year decrease of 10.3%. Empty containers passing through the port increased by 11.5% year-on-year to 31,955 TEUs

Mario Cordero, CEO of the Port of Long Beach, said: “September saw the first monthly year-over-year cargo growth in 14 months, indicating that the import drought may be over and consumer confidence is rising. We look forward to cargo shipments Volumes will rebound modestly before the end of the year. The Port of Long Beach has signed a new cooperation agreement with port workers, and shippers can rely on our services."

Previously, the Longshoremen's Union (LWU) and the Pacific Ocean Shipping Association announced in June that they had reached a temporary labor agreement. The union approved a six-year contract on August 31.
