According to the data released by Alphaliner, as of May 8, the total number of container ships in operation worldwide reached 6,597, an increase of 73 ships compared with two months ago; the total global shipping capacity was 26,895,441 TEU, an increase of 342,979 TEU; the total tonnage of operating ships was 321,751,754 deadweight tons.

 

Among the regional trade weekly capacity, the transatlantic capacity is 169,517 TEU; the transpacific capacity is 514,943 TEU; and the eastern European capacity is 447,650 TEU.

As of May 8, the top ten shipping capacity rankings are: MSC, Maersk, CMA CGM, COSCO, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, ONE, HMM, Yang Ming, and Zim Lines.

 

Among them, the Mediterranean Sea increased its shipping capacity by 220,370 TEU within 2 months, and its operating ships increased by 19 ships; Maersk reduced its shipping capacity by 34,564 TEUs, and its operating ships decreased by 8 ships; CMA CGM increased its shipping capacity by 63,639 TEUs, and its operating ships increased by 23 ships.
