I have the advantage? Behind the prosperity of the China Railway Express, the European side frequently loses the chain

On April 8th, with a roar of steam, the China-Europe Railway Express (Yuxinou) full of new energy vehicles roared out from Chongqing Tuanjie Village Station. The trains will leave these new energy vehicles via the Alashankou Port and arrive in Germany Duisburg.

In the past two quarters, thanks to the vigorous development of new energy vehicles in my country, the volume of China-Europe trains has increased a lot. In order to cater to the growth of the new energy market, some trains have specially launched the export transportation mode of automobiles in a row. With the help of China-Europe trains, the efficient , fast transshipment, and direct access to the port and land, and develop a new channel that is conducive to the transportation of new energy vehicles.

Passenger and cargo are blooming

On April 13th, on the eve of the Songkran Festival in Laos, China and Laos realized the direct cross-border passenger transport between China and Laos. We have waited too long for this moment. The two-way cross-border passenger train from Kunming South to Vientiane Station in Laos can erase a distance of 1,035 kilometers in ten hours.

As early as the beginning of December 2021, the China-Laos Railway has been opened for operation, and direct freight was realized in that year. However, due to the epidemic situation, the Chinese section and the Laos section of the China-Laos Railway will operate in sections. After the epidemic, the Magpie Bridge was finally built, and the long-lost two sections of railway connected the cargo and passenger transport between China and Laos.

The China-Laos Railway is a golden channel for the development of China and Southeast Asia. The China-Laos Railway is now fully realized for both passenger and cargo purposes, which will further promote Laos’ foreign economic cooperation and lay the foundation for Laos’ deep integration into regional cooperation. At the same time, since the China-Laos Railway runs through the entire territory of Laos, it will also promote the flow efficiency of production factors in Laos.

However, is the China Railway Express really as prosperous as this? What kind of pressure is behind it, and what is the underlying reason for the impediment of Laos freight in 2021?

The timeliness of the China-Europe Railway Express is fast, but the continuity is poor. The most important reason is the lack of infrastructure in Europe. European giants have different opinions on how to adapt the railway to the market demand. At present, the European railway port is the most prominent place for the China-Europe Railway Express. Short board, we hope to find the answer from it.

superficially, Railway freight has natural advantages in big countries. Long-distance transportation has always been the advantage of railways. Furthermore, both India and Russia have underdeveloped road networks and road transport industries. Most North American rail freight is carried by seven Class 1 railroads, supported by numerous regional and feeder railroads.

Get to the bottom of it, the situation in Europe is very different. Rail transport distances are short, rail infrastructure is regulated according to different standards in each country, and rail freight rates vary from country to country. Train lengths are strictly limited: Europe's dream is to have 750-meter-long trains as standard, but there is still a gap. It is absolutely impossible to manage and optimize rail freight without a bad infrastructure. Beyond that, European wagons still relied on manual couplers, making rail freight labor-intensive.

At present, behind the development of new energy vehicle transportation and China-Laos railway, there are still many problems. As a means of transportation, its performance in transportation standards, data exchange and resource sharing in Europe is not good enough. Our ideal is to have no seam logistics, but European rail still has a long way to go.
