Freight Winter? Logistics Giants Slash Jobs in Mass Layoffs
Against the background of fluctuations in global supply chain demand and adjustments to customer structure, Danish logistics giant DSV has once again shrunk its U.S. business presence. The latest news shows that the company will lay off nearly 400 employees in Texas and close a key logistics facility.
According to industry media ShippingWatch, DSV has launched a large-scale layoff plan in Wilmer, Texas, involving a total of 391 employees. The affected employees include 278 forklift drivers, 28 warehouse operators, 19 drivers and 19 supervisors. It is expected to officially take effect at the end of April or the first half of May.
At the same time, the company plans to gradually close a large third-party logistics (3PL) warehousing center near Dallas.
DSV stated that the warehouse lease agreement has been terminated and is currently trying its best to transfer the affected employees to the new tenant or its other local operating units.
A company spokesperson pointed out that this move is a structural adjustment of its Contract Logistics business in Texas and is designed to better respond to changes in the current market environment.
Although DSV did not disclose the specific reasons, industry sources said that this adjustment may be related to the loss of the logistics contract of the US consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G).
Under the 3PL model, once core customers like Procter & Gamble are lost, it often directly affects the sustainability of warehousing operations and even leads to the closure of the entire project.
The layoffs have been officially disclosed through a WARN declaration (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) submitted to the local government.
According to U.S. law, companies must notify the government and employees in advance before implementing large-scale layoffs or closing facilities, otherwise they may face compensation liability.
Currently, Chicago-based law firm Strauss Borrelli PLLC has intervened in the investigation, focusing on assessing whether DSV fully complies with the relevant provisions of the WARN Act.
It is worth noting that the warehouse is a typical third-party logistics operation facility and none of the employees are unionized. So far, the law firm has not made it clear whether any violations have been discovered.
The layoffs are only part of DSV’s business adjustments in the United States. Earlier this year, DSV sold USA Truck, an American transportation company formerly part of the DB Schenker system, to UTAC LLC. This move is seen as an important step in promoting its "asset-light strategy", that is, reducing its own transportation capacity asset allocation.
At the same time, DSV is still increasing its core logistics node layout. The company announced that it will invest approximately US.5 million to build a new regional headquarters in Mesa, Arizona. The project covers an area of approximately 88,000 square meters. In the future, it will integrate air transportation, ocean transportation, road transportation and contract logistics businesses, focusing on serving customers in the consumer goods, technology and semiconductor industries. The project is expected to be put into use in early 2027.

In fact, after completing the acquisition of DB Schenker, DSV has been in the stage of organizational and business integration. The company previously disclosed that it would lay off more than 5,000 employees in the fall of 2025 alone.
According to its 2025 annual report, DSV’s average employee size is approximately 152,000, and it was close to 160,000 in the third quarter.
From losing major customers to closing warehousing projects to continuing layoffs, DSV's adjustments in the U.S. market reflect the current industry characteristics of contract logistics that are highly dependent on customer structures.
In the context of increasing uncertainty in the global supply chain, leading freight forwarding companies are accelerating the optimization of network layout - shrinking when shrinking and expanding when expanding.
